Paleo Protein “Cake Balls”

Paleo Protein “Cake Balls”

I invented these Paleo Protein “Cake Balls” to get my daughter’s protein powder in her in an efficient way.  Protein powder is an important part of her supplementation program, as it is for many of my clients, but I don’t love washing the Vitamix every single day to make a smoothie! I keep them in the freezer and let them defrost for a bit before she devours them. These are no-bake, ready in a few minutes, and they are an easy way to get more veggies in her too.

The protein powder we use contains stevia, so I do not add any sweetener to this recipe. This recipe only takes me a few minutes to whip up, and I can double or triple the recipe when there is room in my freezer. 🙂

  • scant 1/4 cup coconut butter (not coconut oil, I use Artisana)
  • scant 1/4 cup yogurt (I use homemade 24 hr fermented GAPS/SCD cow yogurt but you could use coconut yogurt, coconut milk or another liquid, although you may need less liquid to achieve the same result).
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour (or this one if you shop bulk like I do)
  • 1/2 cup cooked spaghetti squash, or other winter squash
  • 1/4 cup PurePaleo Protein Powder (I imagine the chocolate flavor would work too but it is not suitable for a low oxalate diet)

Note: this protein powder is based on BEEF, but it sure does not taste like it!  In fact, it is my daughter’s favorite protein powder.  Most other forms of protein are unsuitable for my clients because they are highly allergenic (egg or whey, for example), are based on grains or legumes, are high in oxalate, etc.  Many of my clients are using this protein powder with success.

  • Mix all ingredients in the food processor.
  • Ball the batter. I make 10 balls.
  • Store in freezer.

Enjoy! 🙂
